The idea
In Spain, there’s constant debate around young people delaying parenthood but very little focus on the real financial reality behind that decision. We set out to calculate the true cost of raising a child in Spain — from birth to emancipation — breaking it down across everyday expenses: food, clothing, education, housing, leisure and milestones. The result was a single, powerful figure that cut through the noise and reframed the national conversation around family finances.
The results
Over 150 media mentions have been secured so far, including features in top-tier national outlets such as ABC, La Razón, El Mundo and Business Insider. The story quickly moved beyond digital press coverage, earning multiple national TV appearances — including live interviews on RTVE’s 24H channel, features on Antena 3 Noticias, Noticias Cuatro (both midday and evening editions), and mentions on prime-time programmes such as El Intermedio (1.2M viewers). The campaign also gained strong traction on social media, with publisher-led posts generating thousands of engagements.
